Scientific Research Ethics Committee Application Guide

The Scientific Research Ethics Committee operates for the purpose of evaluating the compliance of scientific research conducted within our University or associated with our University, involving human participants or relating to historical artifacts and cultural assets with which humans interact, with ethical principles.

Within this scope, applications for research requiring ethics committee approval shall be made in accordance with the procedures and principles specified below:

1. Application Procedure

Applications to the ethics committee shall be submitted only through the Electronic Document Management System (EBYS).
Applications submitted by hand, e-mail, or other means shall not be taken into consideration.
Applications must be addressed directly to the Scientific Research Ethics Committee and should not be submitted to the Office of the Rector.

2. Scope of Application

Research of the following nature is subject to ethics committee approval:

  • Studies involving surveys, interviews, observations, experiments, tests, scales, audio recordings, and video recordings conducted on human participants
  • Scientific research conducted in the fields of social sciences and humanities involving a data collection process
  • Scientific projects conducted by members of the University or researchers associated with our University

3. Application Documents

The following documents must be included completely in the application file:

  • Application form
  • Research proposal / project text
  • Data collection tools (survey, scale, interview form, etc.)
  • Voluntary Informed Consent Form
  • Supporting documents, if any

Applications containing incomplete or incorrect documents may be returned following formal review.

4. Evaluation Process

Applications shall first be examined in terms of form and completeness.
Applications deemed appropriate shall be placed on the committee agenda and evaluated within the framework of ethical principles.
Where deemed necessary, the Committee may request additional information and documents from the applicant.

5. Research Schedule

The research process should be planned by taking into consideration the ethics committee evaluation and decision period.
The data collection process must not begin before ethics committee approval is obtained.

6. Important Matters

Ethics committee approval only constitutes an evaluation of ethical compliance and does not represent approval regarding the scientific content of the research.
Any responsibility arising from studies conducted without ethics committee approval belongs to the applicant.
The Committee only evaluates ethics approval applications; allegations of ethical violations are examined by a different committee.
